Practising self care through out the study

Before Interview

Suitable timeTry to choose a day and time where you do not have other commitments immediately afterwards, so you have space to rest and decompress after the interview if needed.


Topic guide - Some people might find it easier to familiarise themselves with the topic guide before hand.  Remember it is a guide and not a script. There are no right or wrong answers. 

Your notes - You are welcome to bring notes to help you remember points, experiences, or reflections you may wish to discuss during the interview.

Comfort - Please feel free to wear whatever helps you feel comfortable and at ease. You are also welcome to use or bring comfort items during the interview, such as fidget toys, headphones, drinks, or anything else that helps you focus or feel settled.

During Interview

Your pace - You are welcome to ask to pause, slow down, repeat a question, or return to something later at any point during the interview.

Thinking time - There is no expectation to answer immediately. Please take as much time as you need to think about your response.

Skipping questions - You do not have to answer every question. You are free to skip anything you would prefer not to discuss.

Right to stop  -You can pause or stop the interview at any time. There is no pressure to continue if you no longer wish to take part, and you do not need to give a reason.


Post Interview

Permission to Swtich off  - If possible, try to give yourself permission to fully switch off afterwards rather than immediately returning to work, emails, studying, or other responsibilities.

Self-regulating - It may help to do something calming or regulating after the interview, even if it is something small. This could include resting, eating something nourishing, listening to music, spending time outside, taking a warm shower, or being around people you feel comfortable with.

Self compassion - Please do not judge yourself for what you did or did not say. There are no right or wrong answers, and all experiences and reflections are valuable.

Seeking support - Interviews can sometimes bring up memories, emotions, or experiences you may not usually stop to reflect on. Feeling mentally tired afterwards can be normal. If you feel distressed, please consider reaching out to me, someone you trust, and/or the support resources below.
